You’ve committed to help your store or support area win the Step It Up wellness challenge, and you’re ready to start walking. But you’re super busy! How can you find the time?
It’s easy to say you’ll walk 30 minutes every day, but then reality sets in. Between work, family and other commitments, your day gets eaten away. Use these tips to help you Step It Up.
- Schedule it. Make walking an appointment on your calendar, and don’t allow yourself to miss it. Your health is a priority, too. If your schedule varies from day to day, look ahead and figure out the best time to exercise, then stick to that time.
- Match it to your lifestyle. Not a morning person? Don’t try to make yourself roll out of bed for an early walk. The gym’s out of the way? Walk outside your store or support location on breaks or around your block at home.
- Make it small. If finding 30 minutes seems impossible, find 10 minutes to take a quick walk. Do that three times per day, and you’ve hit your daily recommended activity time.
- Coordinate it with your personality! If you’re social, ask your friends to join you so you can talk while walking. Listen to podcasts or audiobooks if you need time alone to feed your brain. Want to catch up on your favorite TV show? Set up a treadmill so you can watch while walking. If you like what you’re doing, you’re more likely to find the time to fit it in.
