Ashley Dorofy was decorating cakes at #1266, Charleston, South Carolina, when she decided to submit her transfer request form. She moved to the Charlotte area in January 2014 to help open #1442, Charlotte, North Carolina, and her hard work soon paid off — she was promoted to assistant bakery manager that May.
“As soon as I heard about Publix’s plans for North Carolina, I knew I wanted to be a part of the new division and help promote our culture with new associates and customers,” said Ashley, now at #1419, Fort Mill, South Carolina. “It’s the best decision I’ve ever made. The Charlotte Division is all about opportunities, and I encourage others to take full advantage of them.”
It’s not just transfer associates who have heard the call to join Publix in North Carolina. Produce Clerk Tim Sorrels left 26 years’ experience with two competitors to work at #1484, Matthews, North Carolina. Welcoming co-workers and mentoring programs have helped him learn the Publix difference, and he’s excited to come to work each day.
“I always heard good things about Publix — it’s a strong company with advancement opportunities and great benefits,” said Tim. “I wish I had made the move sooner. It’s exciting to help establish Publix in a new area and share my passion with our customers.”

Cassandra Fedrick worked for 10 years at another retail giant, but she felt burned out. When she heard Publix was moving to the area, she did some research and found similar values to her own. Being hired as a bakery clerk at #1485, Rock Hill, South Carolina, was the perfect fit for her, since she enjoys baking at home.
“At this store’s grand opening, I didn’t quite understand how people could be so excited about a grocery store, but a few weeks later, I got it,” said Cassandra. “Publix focuses on its associates and makes sure we have a good experience so we can better relate to our customers.”
