Bakery items make Online Easy Ordering even sweeter

Placing online orders is a piece of cake — literally. This month, 50 stores started a pilot to accept orders for decorated cakes, special edition cakes and decadent desserts through Online Easy Ordering (OEO).

“Our customers look to us to provide high-quality cakes for all their milestone celebrations,” said Business Development Director of Bakery Jane Pixley. “Offering decorated cakes, special edition cakes and decadent desserts through OEO is another way to extend premier customer service and add convenience to event planning.”

If your store is part of the pilot, you — and our customers — will see POP in the lobby and bakery. The success of the pilot will depend in part on how much you talk about OEO to your customers, friends and family.

To place an online cake order, visit www.publix.com/order > Bakery Cakes. Just like placing an order for deli items and platters, screen instructions walk you through each step of the ordering process.
These tips will help you put the icing on your cake.

  • Bakery OEO landing pageIf you already have a theme in mind for your event, select a theme cake. You can customize the cake flavor and filling, but some designs cannot be changed due to copyright laws.
  • Use the Design Your Own Cake feature to custom build your cake from scratch. Start by choosing a cake flavor, filling and icing colors, and then adding trim, borders and decorations.
  • Wedding cakes and custom trendy or specialty cakes are not offered online. Call or stop by the bakery to talk to a bakery associate, who will help you build a dream design.

The evolution of Publix Online Easy Ordering

  • September 2012 OEO is introduced as a 50-store pilot, offering sliced meats and cheeses, and custom subs and wraps.
  • July 2013 — The pilot is a success, and OEO begins to roll out companywide.
  • October 2014 — Customers want more OEO items, so bakery, deli and seafood platters and deli holiday dinners are added in time for the holidays.
  • May 2015 — Fifty stores begin a pilot to offer decorated cakes, special edition cakes and decadent desserts through OEO.
