Study suggests snacking may be more common than we think

According to Mintel’s Snacking Motivations & Attitudes report, 94 percent of Americans snack at least once a day. Last year, 64 percent of consumers said they often snack between meals.

Half of adults snack two to three times per day, and 62 percent say they snack to satisfy a craving. The trend toward healthy snacks is increasing: one-third of participants consider simple ingredients and low calorie counts when looking for a snack.

When the study focused on snacking by generation, it found millennials — people ages 21 to 38 — are frequent snackers, eating four or more snacks per day. Millennials say they snack to stay focused and have energy.
