Part of Publix’s mission is to be involved as responsible citizens in our communities. Recently, associates from two Atlanta Division districts spent a little time at local organizations and made a big difference in the future of others.
Serving some special people
In the spirit of giving back and serving their community, 35 associates from District Manager Joe Prestigiacomo’s area came together to host a cookout for Extra Special People (ESP). ESP is a local organization that serves individuals with mild to severe physical, mental and emotional disabilities.
The associates provided lunch and drinks, and played games with ESP’s clients in the afternoon.
“This has been an annual event for our store for years, and this year, we invited the rest of our district to share in the experience,” said Store Manager Dennis Curry, #617, Watkinsville, Georgia. “I was so proud to see our associates come together and see an incredible organization in action.”
Racing to end homelessness
Associates in Knoxville, Tennessee, put their paddles to work as they competed in the 13th annual Knoxville Area Rescue Mission’s (KARM) Annual Dragon Boat Festival and Race.
Store managers Kelli Cruess, #1415, Knoxville, and Chris Huss, #1416, Knoxville, led the team of 20 associates as they paddled the 41-foot dragon boat. The team placed second in the race and won the Best Team Tent competition with their pineapple dragon display. The event raised more than $200,000 to help alleviate homelessness and hunger in eastern Tennessee.
“This was our first time entering the race, and next year, we have no doubt we’ll win!” said Kelli. “We had so much fun, and it was all for a good cause.”
