What brought you to Publix?
While in pharmacy school, I began calling pharmacists at various retail chains and asking them about their employers. I happened to speak to a Publix pharmacist who had a great understanding of our company’s success and stability, the PROFIT plan and what our retirement benefits meant to him personally. I knew that practicing pharmacy in a supermarket atmosphere where I could be a regular part of the community and build relationships with my patients was the setting I was looking for.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
Getting to meet pharmacy associates across the company and hearing their Publix stories. I particularly enjoy hearing about how pharmacists and technicians “found” Publix. Some may have interned in our pharmacies while in pharmacy or technical school. Others may have been encouraged to apply by an associate. Quite frequently, pharmacists have relocated from another part of the country and heard about our company’s reputation as a great place to work and practice pharmacy. I also enjoy hearing about the premier service provided by our pharmacy associates as they work to improve patient health. These efforts are often life-changing for our customers. For example, our pharmacists teach newly-diagnosed diabetic customers how to eat healthy in customer workshops.

What has changed the most about Publix since you started?
With respect to the pharmacy, I would definitely say the investment in and implementation of warehousing and new technology, which has brought savings and efficiency to our business

What hasn’t changed about Publix since you started?
Our great reputation, our focus on the customer (patient), and a family feel among associates. We are all owners of Publix and work hard every day to make our company successful.

What’s your favorite Publix memory?
Helping deliver immunization training to our pharmacists in the mid to late 2000s to ensure the Publix Pharmacy was positioned to be on the forefront of our industry

What are you most proud of personally?
Being a part of the evolution of pharmacy services at Publix to include the clinical services we offer beyond the basic prescription. We’ve truly embraced the goal to improve patient health, both for our customers and associates. Our pharmacists and technicians have become advocates for health and an integral part of our stores.
