Michael joined Publix in 2005 and started with a team of three people. Over the years, as their responsibilities have grown, his team has grown as well. Michael oversees projects like investigating the environmental conditions of potential new store sites before we decide to purchase or lease the location.

Ocala, Florida
What did you want to be when you were little?
A marine biologist because I thought I could scuba dive and play with dolphins all day
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I love getting to meet so many associates across the company — in retail and support. And, I’m fortunate to work with a fantastic team.
What hasn’t changed about Publix since you started?
The caring and giving spirit of our associates has never changed. I’ve met so many associates who are the Mr. George of their store or support department.
What’s your favorite Publix memory?
The first time I was able to purchase Publix stock for my children and they became company owners

What do you enjoy most about working at Publix?
I’m proud to tell people I work at Publix because our company is so respected and admired in the community. I love hearing stories about customers who love Publix. The way Publix’s reputation makes its way around will never cease to amaze me — I even hear stories from people when I’m travelling outside the Southeast.
What are you most proud of personally?
I’m most proud of my two sons. Matthew is the oldest, and he’s studying architectural design at the University of Florida. Bryce is a junior in the International Baccalaureate program at Bartow High School and plans to study literature in college. They’re smart kids who definitely take after their mother.

What brought you to Publix?
I’m a third-generation native to Florida, but I had been living and working in Michigan for five years — and I could not face another winter. When the opportunity to work at Publix came up, I jumped at the chance to return to Florida for a company I’ve known my whole life.
What has changed the most about Publix since you started?
Growth — it’s brought a lot of interesting challenges and rewarding opportunities to Publix.

The Blues Brothers
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Watching low-budget B horror movies while eating Publix Premium Chocolate Trinity ice cream
What are your hobbies?
I love to cook, and I love to eat even more.
