Tracy McClellan — Director of Compensation and Personnel Records

Tracy joined Publix in 1976 while in high school as a part-time payroll clerk, and in 1984, as promoted to assistant payroll manager. Then, in 1993, she transferred to human resources as a compensation analyst. Tracy was promoted to compensation manager in 1996 and to her current position in 2008.

Where were you born?
Lakeland, Florida

What brought you to Publix?
My mom worked at Publix and loved it. She had previous jobs before Publix, but she never considered them a career. Publix changed that. So when the time came that I wanted a car, my mom told me to get a job at Publix. Fortunately, I applied for a part-time job through a business program in high school and was hired in the payroll department.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
Everything we do touches our associates — from paying them each week or month to providing paid time off benefits and tuition reimbursement, and I love that.

What’s your favorite Publix memory?
My favorite memory is the first time I met Mr. George when I was 17. He walked into payroll with a question regarding his pay and was so down-to-earth and extremely nice.

What are your hobbies?
I love relaxing and walking on the beach. I also can’t get enough of my grandson.

What are your favorite Publix products?
Our buttercream icing and most recently our deli blackberry lemonade
