Adrian Bennett

Adrian joined Publix in 1991 as a part-time front service clerk in Savannah, Georgia. He was promoted into management in 1993 and to store manager in 2002. In 2006, he was promoted to district manager and to his current role in May 2016.

Where were you born? 
Belle Glade, Florida

What did you want to be when you were little?
A long-distance truck driver. It’s what my dad did as a profession, and I wanted to follow in his footsteps.

What do you enjoy most about your job? 
I truly enjoy the privilege of serving others by assisting my team to conquer the challenges that come from working to achieve executional excellence and ensuring we are operating in unison with our strategy map.

What is your favorite movie? 
Remember the Titans

What’s your work or life philosophy? 
It’s simple: you get out what you put in. Although it can be very demanding, it’s all about prioritizing and devoting the right amount of time in each area.

What’s your favorite Publix memory? 
When I was offered the second assistant manager position, I was very reluctant because I felt the need to know more. Thankfully, I worked with [Senior Vice President] Kevin Murphy — second assistant manager at the time — who pulled me aside and helped me realize the potential I had. This experience reminds me to see the potential in associates who may be hesitant to accept more responsibility and allows me to coach and encourage them to not sell themselves or Publix short on the value they have.

What’s your proudest moment? 
When I received the 2013 President’s Award in 2014. I often think of what that award symbolizes and how it aligns with our company’s commitment to diversity in the work place.

What brought you to Publix? 
I was working for a competitor in Savannah and looking for a career change when Publix opened in the area.

What do you enjoy most about working at Publix?
There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing associates who you’ve assisted in their development and training become successful and grow in their role within Publix. Knowing you played a small part in their success is a joy in itself.

What hasn’t changed about Publix since you started?
I would have to say our core foundation: people. It’s why Publix is recognized every year as one of the best companies to work for. After more than 85 years, it’s still the foundation our entire strategy hinges upon!

What has changed about Publix since you started?
So much has changed over the years, but one area in particular would be the technology side of our business. When I think back on how stores used to accomplish processes — such as ordering and completing schedules — I would have to say technology has improved our overall efficiency as a company. This change drives key parts of our business model on every platform today.

What are your favorite books? 
The Bible and any books about self-improvement

What music are you listening to right now?

What is your favorite sports team?
Tampa Bay Buccaneers

What’s your guilty pleasure?
Anything sweet — I love desserts

What are your hobbies?
Playing golf
