Karen joined Publix as an intern in manufacturing in 1991. She was promoted to accountant at the Lakeland bakery plant in 1994 and held various roles there. In 1999, she was promoted to manager of manufacturing information technology, and her position has evolved into her current role.
What did you want to be when you were little?
A pharmacist — until my first college chemistry class!
What brought you to Publix?
I applied for an internship while attending the University of South Florida. My dad did business with Publix and told me what a great company it was. After meeting several associates during my interview, I knew I wanted to be here!
What do you enjoy most about your job?
The opportunity to work with so many great teams who have one purpose — to make a positive difference for our Publix customers

Publix Premium Greek Strawberry Yogurt and GreenWise Cranberry Orange Cookies
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Regularly scheduled massages and an occasional nap by the pool

Receiving the 2014 Mr. George Community Service Award

Huntington, West Virginia. I moved to Florida before I was one, so I consider myself a Floridian.

What’s your favorite Publix memory?
Being on the team that implemented SAP for Publix. It was a foundational change for us and took manufacturing to the next level of materials planning and operational cost management.
