We’ve got the power

Generator

Our customers trust us to provide them with what they need. Getting our stores up and running when our customers need us is one way we can provide premier service.

After the busy hurricane seasons of 2004 and 2005, Publix was determined to help provide our customers and communities access to life’s necessities immediately following a natural disaster. So, we announced plans to begin installing generators in our highest-risk areas like Florida and the coastal regions of Georgia and South Carolina.

The initial investment of $175 million, plus the significant maintenance costs, have been money well spent. The day after Hurricane Irma, more than 400 stores were running on generator power. Some of the hardest-hit areas in Florida like Miami and Naples relied on their generators for up to eight days. Our generators kept refrigerated and frozen cases and coolers running. Although we did experience product loss in some of our stores, our generators saved us from losing all perishable product.

Today, more than 800 stores have generators, and Publix has an additional 20 mobile generators on hand, which can be moved where they are needed.
