Making Special Olympics dreams come true

Through the generosity of our customers and associates, Publix raised a remarkable $5.8 million in just three weeks during the 2017 Special Olympics Light the Torch campaign. This year, through Jan. 20, customers and associates can purchase paper torches for $1, $3, $5 or $10 at checkout to show their support of the organization.

The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round free sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for people with intellectual disabilities who wish to participate. It gives  them an opportunity to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of skills and friendship with their communities.

“We are pleased to be one of the top supporters of Special Olympics in the states where we operate,” said Director of Media and Community Relations Maria Brous. “Supporting Special Olympics is part of our commitment to being involved with the communities we serve.”

Last year, Front Service Clerk Evan Hodge, #566, Acworth, Georgia, was part of the USA Special Olympics team that competed at the 2017 Winter World Games in Australia. He won a bronze medal for alpine skiing.
