Doug was a recent graduate of the University of Central Florida when he began his Publix career 22 years ago as an industrial engineer. He’s held various positions in manufacturing, including manufacturing manager of industrial engineering, general manager of Atlanta dairy processing and director of manufacturing. He was promoted to his current role in May.
Where were you born?
Winter Park, Florida
Who are your role models?
My parents. They encouraged me to work hard and showed me how to love and respect others. They also taught me the importance of following the rules, and they always set a good example for me to follow. Most importantly, they gave me unconditional love and support. They’re the reason I am the person I am today.
What are your favorite sports teams?
The Florida Gators and the UCF Knights. I also love to watch golf.

What’s your work philosophy?
I’m a strong believer in servant leadership, and I believe every associate makes a difference in our organization. I work for a wonderful company that believes our associates are our greatest competitive advantage. I know if we continue to invest in our associates, show them how much we care about them as individuals and provide them with what they need to be successful, our future will be very bright.
What’s your proudest moment?
The day I was called to Todd’s office and offered the position of Vice President of Manufacturing. I’ve had the pleasure to work with many wonderful leaders, and to know I’m being trusted with the opportunity to be an officer in our company is indescribable. Of course, I was very proud to call my wife and my parents to tell them the news.

What brought you to Publix?
I graduated from UCF and was looking for an engineering job. Through the career center, I learned Publix would be doing on-site interviews. I really had no idea what the job was about or even that Publix had opportunities outside of the retail stores. Later that year, I was offered a job as an industrial engineer at the bakery plant. I’ve worked in manufacturing my entire career, and I’m fortunate I have had the opportunity to work here. I’m very thankful, and I know I am a better person because I have worked for Publix.

What did you want to be when you were little?
A professional soccer player
What are your hobbies?
Running, cycling and playing golf
What’s one thing on your bucket list?
To play golf at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia.
What’s your advice to someone starting out in their Publix career?
Be good to people and be the kind of person others want to work with. No matter what your job, focus each day on being the best. Prepare yourself for the future, but do not let yourself get distracted from what you need to do each day to be successful!
What do you enjoy most about working for Publix?
I enjoy being around Publix manufacturing associates. Everywhere I go, I meet people who love their company, their job and are truly happy to be part of something so successful.
What are you binge-watching right now?
I’m not a binge-watcher, but I do love watching college football and the Golf Channel. I also love to watch leadership and motivational videos on YouTube.
What goes on your perfect Pub sub?
An Italian sub with cheese, mayo, lettuce, tomato, oil, vinegar and oregano
What’s a fun or unique fact people might not know about you?
I’m a fourth-generation Floridian. My great-grandpa, grandpa, dad and I were all born here.
