Systems operator’s idea turns into opportunity

For McCalla Systems Operator Chris Pitts, every day at Publix is a chance to be creative and think outside the box.

Since starting with Publix in January 2014, Chris has worked roles, such as stocker, distribution operator and inventory control analyst. In his current role, he is responsible for managing the inventory team by overseeing their daily responsibilities and overall team efficiency.

Chris developed a more effective way to schedule associates at distribution sites, and it was recently approved to roll out to all Publix distribution centers. The once-manual process is now automated, thanks to his idea. Chris said he is motivated to share his ideas with company leaders because of our open-door culture.

“I have always felt comfortable going to my manager and talking about different things I noticed or different opportunities for our area to be more effective,” said Chris. “Being given the freedom to come up with ideas and seeing them carried out is so rewarding when you see the effect it has on people.

“Providing premier customer service to everyone, including those in support, has made me proud to work for this company and to continue making it better,” he said.

Warehouse Operations Manager Rich Wederman says Chris’ knowledge and commitment to improve Publix by developing and using timely insightful operational information every day makes him a difference-maker and is why he’s a featured My Publix, My Part associate.

“Chris is a talented associate whose innovative ideas have improved not only McCalla distribution, but all of Publix distribution,” said Rich. “Chris eagerly shares his knowledge with his peers. He is a great team player who truly makes Publix a great place to work.”

“I believe in working hard,” said Chris. “I am willing to go above and beyond my daily duties. Publix is full of opportunity. You just have to want it.”
