You know you need to move and be more physically active.

Whenever you think about exercising, being sweaty and miserable are the two things that come to mind first. You know the American Heart Association recommends getting at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise five days each week, but the key is finding an activity that works for you.

You talk to friends, and several tell you about how hard it was for them to get started too. They all tell you about how they had to start exercising slowly because when they did too much, too soon, they were too sore to work out the next day.

A few said they started by walking each day because it was the easiest thing to do. Then, they tried different activities until they found what they liked. A couple of them exercise at gyms because they enjoy the motivation of being around other people. Others prefer to work out alone at home. But, their best advice is to make sure working out is convenient and fun.

The next morning, you lace up your shoes and go for a walk. Over the next few weeks, you experiment with times and activities like biking, a boot camp class, lifting weights and swimming. Before you know it, you start seeing results, and you know you’ve made the right decision.
