Learning the language of premier service

For this customer service associate, providing premiere service is more than a day-to-day task.

In 2008, Customer Service Team Leader Thitima Pummi-On, #575, Marathon, Florida, gained more experience than she ever imagined during her three months with Publix as a seasonal associate.

During her time working as a part-time cashier, Thitima improved her English and learned what it meant to provide premier service to customers. From the beginning, she knew Publix felt like home. Eight years ago, Thitima came back to Publix for good. Since then, she has started learning Spanish so she can communicate with as many customers as possible.

“I have learned to understand what they’re saying,” she said. “I love a challenge. My favorite part of my job is making customers happy. To me, providing premier service means helping customers with whatever they need, whether they’re on the phone or in front of me.”

Store Manager Steve Levine said customers regularly seek out Thitima for assistance because they know she will always do whatever it takes to serve them.

“Thitima is a difference maker daily,” Steve said. “Working in the front office, she has learned to communicate with many Spanish-speaking customers. Living in a small town, she knows many customers by name and has built a personal rapport with them.”

For her dedication to providing premier service each day to her customers, Thitima is recognized as a My Publix, My Part difference maker. She plans to make a career at Publix and is happy to have found a home with her Publix family.

“For everything Publix provides to their associates for a better future, I can’t think of any other company I’d rather be with,” she said. “And, our managers are training us all the time and giving us the opportunity to learn different things. I’m grateful to be here.”
