Last month, we resumed opening new stores. And with store openings comes more opportunities to advance your career at Publix.

We are proud to have a promote-from-within culture. In fact, it’s one of the practices Mr. George had when he founded this great company. And it’s one of the ways most of our leaders advanced into the positions they have today.

With opportunities ahead of you, now is the time to prepare yourself. Talk with your manager about specific areas you could improve in to be ready for the next step in your career. Consider looking at ways to continue building your skills, whether it’s taking an individual course connected to what you’re interested in doing or reading a book on leadership. Learn from those around you. This is probably one of the easiest ways to grow your knowledge. Each one of us can learn something new from someone else — just ask and if asked, share what you know.

Mr. George said: “Publix is like a smorgasbord with opportunity spread out for you. Prepare yourself. The opportunities are up for grabs.” Publix has career options that range from running a bakery and designing the weekly ad to selecting products and managing our social media accounts — and almost everything in between. It’s up to you to decide what interests you and talk with your manager about how to prepare. When you set your mind to achieve your goals, the possibilities are endless.
