Who is the fairest of them all?
If artist Lillian Blades has anything to say about it, then she would say it’s you. Her mural in #1689, Marietta, Georgia, is made up of many mirrors, among other objects.
“I wanted visitors to walk past my art and see themselves in it,” Lillian said. “Seeing yourself as part of the work is what I consider to be the most important part of art and what I like most about it.”
Aside from the reflective aspect of the piece, the mural uses a quilt-like patchwork of found objects from all around the world. The wide variety in objects is meant to symbolize the diversity of products at GreenWise Market — and there’s lots and lots of green.
“The color green is clean, fresh and healthy to me,” said Lillian. “These are the things I think of when I think of GreenWise Market.”
The mural’s light green background progressively grows darker as your eyes travel upward. Scattered across the painting is an array of picture frames, crystals, beads and many other knickknacks with different textures and shapes.
“My favorite part of this process was putting all the pieces together after weeks of prepping,” said Lillian. “Seeing it all come together as one is what it’s all about, much like GreenWise Market and this city.”
