Ponte Vedra mural stops time

Paint a picture. It’ll last longer.

Moments seem to pass so fast, especially when you aren’t giving them a second thought. For the mural in #1701, Ponte Vedra, Florida, Shawn Meharg painted a rendering of a snapshot of a busy moment to intentionally slow it down, allowing the viewer to pause to take it in.

“We spend our days multitasking and trying to get through our day as quickly as possible,” said Shawn. “This still-life painting gives you a look into a busy life, but hones in on one moment in time.”

Painted like you’re looking down at a cutting board, the mural gives the impression of chaos with several items scattered around the space. A carrot sits at an angle near the top; a bundle of herbs lies near lemons and garlic, waiting to be chopped; and a handful of shrimp is arranged near a garlic press.

“I chose items that brought my painting alive with color and reflected the lifestyle I feel GreenWise Market supports,” Shawn said. “The angle of the mural encloses the customer in the scene and gives them a chance to put themselves in the painting and experience it on a more personal level.”

That personal experience is also part of his creative process. As he’s working, Shawn imagines himself in the scene he is painting and asks the question, “Why?”

“You start with a vague idea or nothing at all, and then you just begin,” said Shawn. “You start finding a reason for what comes to your mind and hand. With the reason comes the story.”
