Pharmacy Manager Stephanie Yeung, #35, Simpsonville, South Carolina, moved from her home state in search of a milder climate, and she found a career at Publix.
Stephanie was born, raised and went to college in Pennsylvania. But she and her husband always loved the weather in South Carolina, so in 2014, they decided to make the move. And while they were at it, they changed companies too.
“We were making a big change in our lives, and we just decided to go all in,” Stephanie said.
After graduating from college in 2009 with her doctorate in pharmacy, Stephanie worked as a pharmacist at another retailer. When she began looking for a new employer, she found a lot to love about Publix.
“I was looking for a strong, reliable, stable company, and I liked that Publix is employee-owned,” she said.
Stephanie loves being able to help people, and she feels Publix allows her to do that.
“My family and friends say I wear my heart on my sleeve, and I think that plays into my role as a pharmacist,” she said. “I care about my patients. Publix allows me the opportunity to connect with them and get to know them better.”
Outside of work, Stephanie is also a musician. In high school, she was more focused on the arts, playing the piano, singing, writing music and performing in musical theater productions. But she was always good at math and science. So when she was accepted to both music and pharmacy school, she had to make a decision.
“Performance was a major interest of mine,” she said, “but I realized music was more of a hobby than a future career.”
Another passion of hers is animals — dogs, to be specific. Prior to this past year, she and her husband volunteered at local animal shelters. Her husband jokes that if she wasn’t a pharmacist, she’d be a great veterinarian.
Stephanie is always looking for growth opportunities and takes advantage of the feedback she receives to help her develop as a leader. She’s planning to build a long-term career with Publix and would love to move into a pharmacy supervisor role in the future. And while she’s preparing for that opportunity, she’s also enjoying another big life change. This past January, Stephanie gave birth to her first child, a little girl.
“She’s my pride and joy,” she said. “I hope she has the same love for music and helping people and animals that I do.”
