In October, we celebrate Pharmacists Appreciation Month, and we can’t help but give props to our hard-working pharmacy technicians.
For Eva Montalvo, #582, Tampa, Florida, being a pharmacy technician means being able to care for and build relationships with her customers.
“I’ve been doing this for so long, I see a lot of the same customers,” Eva said. “I even get special requests like ‘I want Eva to give me my vaccines.’ I love it.”
Eva started with Publix as a cashier in 2006 at #399, Tampa. She wanted to explore other opportunities and grow in other departments, so in 2011, she received training to transfer into the pharmacy.
To work in the pharmacy, you must get trained in skills alongside a certified pharmacist. Some pharmacy technicians are trained to administer immunizations.
A typical day for Eva consists of taking phone calls, processing prescriptions, administering vaccines and doing anything she can to assist her customers.
She says being there for your customers is the key to success as a pharmacy tech.
“If you have empathy and the drive to help the community and patients, this is a great place,” Eva said.
