Security operations does more than look out for the safety of our associates. They also give many visitors their first impression of our company.
If you consider yourself a social butterfly, interested in meeting people from all walks of life, a job on our security team may be just right for you!
Security Officer David Perry started with Publix in 2018 and has gotten to know many visitors who come through our Lakeland Industrial Complex gate.
“People come from out of state or out of the country, so you get to know some of the drivers,” David said. “You make friends with some of them, and others, you get to hear their stories and make friends with some of them.”
Working in security includes maintaining quality control for arriving and departing trucks. It involves making sure trailers are at proper temperatures and have not been tampered with.
Security is also responsible for keeping our associates safe and verifying that anyone visiting our plants or corporate offices has been checked in.
“You have to be vigilant,” David said. “You have to monitor everything around you.”
He is assigned to a permanent post outside the dairy plant now, but he used to work at various locations as a “rover.” Rovers are security officers who oversee different entrances onto Publix property. Some rovers enjoy the change of scenery and meeting many associates.
David appreciates his opportunity to grow here. “I like that I have a future with Publix.”
