Seafood specialist is ‘fishing’ for his passion

Since he was just a kid, Seafood Specialist Marty Snider, #1674, Boca Raton, Florida, has been drawn to the ocean and the fish in it.

From the time Marty was just 8 years old, he knew that fish were his calling. He took many trips with his family down to the Florida Keys to fish, dive and learn about the creatures under the sea.

“Since I was a kid, I’ve been drawn to learning different types of fish and learning about what makes them unique,” said Marty. “I learned not just how to fish, but how to clean and cook the array of fish you can find here in Florida.”

In addition to taking many trips down to the Keys with friends and family, Marty also has been an avid reader of fishing magazines since he was young. This helped him learn more about varieties of fish and how to successfully catch them.

“All of my knowledge of fish has been building up for my whole life, so I always knew I wanted to combine my passion with my job,” said Marty. “And I had that perfect opportunity when I applied at Publix.”

Marty interviewed at a Publix GreenWise Market (PGWM) and was hired into CUTS. But when Marty brought in some pictures of him spearfishing and told his manager of his experience with fish, he was transferred to the seafood side.

“Finding my place at PGWM has been like finding my home,” said Marty. “I get to share recipes, and explain how to cook and best prepare all the different fish we offer.”

And PGWM has many unique kinds of fish for customers to choose from.

“One of my favorite things about finding my dream job here is that I have been exposed to many kinds of seafood I wouldn’t normally find around Florida,” said Marty. “I’ve gotten to learn even more about seafood, while connecting with the people here. I definitely recommend combining your passion and your job!”
