Laurie started with Publix in 2006 as senior vice president of information systems and chief information officer. In 2019, she assumed additional responsibilities as chief digital officer, which includes overseeing our omnichannel business. Laurie also leads the Publix technology team that delivers, supports and secures all of our systems.
What do you feel helped you succeed in the tech field?
I love to learn and solve complex problems. I thrive on making things better, and technology has ample opportunity to drive improvement and create value.
What advice do you give to someone interested in a technical career?
Fully explore your interest by taking some classes or finding an internship to see what it’s like firsthand. Technology can be such a rewarding career, but like other areas of work, it takes commitment. I encourage people to discover what they have a passion for. That’s the key to a long-term, fulfilling career.

What are you most proud of during your time at Publix?
I am most proud of our technology team. I can always count on our terrific team to provide premier customer service, deliver high-quality technology solutions and resolve incidents quickly. It’s rewarding to be part of a team that excels in ensuring our systems run smoothly all day, every day.
What led you to where you are today?
I always wanted to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment where my work could make things better. I saw how technology could simplify life at my 1st job and was fascinated by the many ways it could be used to increase efficiency and enhance business performance. That’s why I chose to focus my career in technology when I was offered an opportunity in this field.

What words of wisdom do you have for new or aspiring managers?
Always lead by example. Consistently show others that you expect more from yourself than you would ask of them. Invest in your team by building strong relationships and providing the training and guidance your associates need to be successful. Demonstrate the highest levels of accountability and follow through on your commitments.

What’s one of your hobbies?
I really enjoy being active, which includes working out, hiking and practicing yoga.
What advice has stuck with you throughout your career?
Hold yourself accountable to consistently deliver high-quality results. Exceed expectations in everything you do. Invest in cultivating strong relationships. Treat each interaction as a chance to learn and grow by actively listening. Valuable learnings are often gained by interacting with others.
What do you think is the unique thing about your role?
Technology is always changing, which requires us to transform. Technology transformations are energizing since they provide the unique opportunity to continually learn and gain new skills with each major shift in how technology is developed, delivered and operated.
