Physical activity, getting health screenings and preventive care have a lot of benefits.
Monitoring your health, weight and how much exercise you get is important. Being physically active can help you have
- better brain health
- more control over your weight
- an improved immune system
- stronger bones and muscles, and
- more stamina and endurance.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), an adult needs 150 minutes of physical activity each week and a strengthening activity on 2 different days. The more you move, the more benefits you gain. To achieve your physical goals, you need to start slowly. It’s also important to have realistic goals.
Try these activities to add a little exercise to your daily routine:
- Take the stairs instead of the elevator.
- Park your car at the far end of the parking lot when grocery shopping or running errands.
- Go for a quick walk during your work breaks.
- Try a virtual at-home exercise class.
- Stand or walk when watching TV or using the computer.
- Set an alarm to go off once an hour if you need a friendly reminder to move your body.
Preventive care
The CDC also recommends regular health screenings with a medical professional. Preventive care can reduce the risk of diseases and premature death.
For Publix BCBS PPO Plan enrollees:
- Preventive screenings are covered at 100%.
- In-network office visit copays are capped at $25 or $50.
- A colonoscopy in an ambulatory surgical center costs $100.
