Showing the Publix way

In times of devastation and disaster, Publix people never hesitate to be there for their teams and communities.

In the wake of hurricanes Helene and Milton, millions of people were left without power, had damage to their cars and belongings, and for some, had no home to call their own. While the storms’ destruction was extensive, our Publix family rose to the occasion and immediately looked to help those in need.

Showing up for our communities

One associate used the Nextdoor app to offer help to anyone in his community who needed it. Connecticut resident Ms. Deets shared how this associate helped her elderly mother in central Florida. Just hours before the hurricane made landfall, our associate delivered distilled water for her nebulizer, secured her patio furniture and helped clean her yard of potentially dangerous debris before moving on to help another resident with their sandbags.

Our Publix family also gave relief and nourishment to thousands of first responders and community members throughout our operating area and beyond.

Caring for customers

Our Publix family often provided a sense of community and normalcy. Customers came to charge their cellphones and laptops, use Wi-Fi and restrooms, and take advantage of air conditioning, warm meals, hugs, smiles and shoulders to cry on.

Some associates traveled to the impacted areas to help stock shelves and provide much-needed relief to store teams. Other associates in industrial operations worked day and night to load and deliver extra trucks to replenish essential items that customers desperately needed.

In times of need, Publix people show what it means to live our founder’s lessons and make a lasting impact on the lives they touch. Check out what customers and associates had to say about our Publix culture and our response to the hurricanes.
