When LaTonya Rucker began her career with Publix in 1993, she knew it was the start of something great, but she never imagined the influence it would lead to.
In the early years of her career, LaTonya worked in inventory. She enjoyed her job but was always fascinated by women driving Publix trucks.
“Back in the ‘90s, there were only a handful of women truck drivers, so when I saw one, it inspired me to want to drive,” she said.
LaTonya turned that inspiration into action and earned her truck driver’s license in 2006. After LaTonya became a truck driver, she noticed more women in her area showing interest in driving.
“Seeing different people reach their goals gives you confidence to go after the things you want to accomplish,” she said.
LaTonya has learned valuable lessons about adaptability and patience throughout her career.
“No day is the same when you’re on the road,” she explained. “Being humble is the key because our trucks are a moving advertisement. Our actions can determine how people feel about Publix.”
Every March, LaTonya celebrates Women’s History Month. She is proud of the strides women have made and is honored to influence the next generation of women truck drivers.
“My decision to do something outside my comfort zone has become an example for other women to follow, and that means the world to me,” she said. “I am proud to be a part of the Publix fleet!”
