At Publix, we believe learning is a lifelong journey. For Mocha Davis, a cashier at #1547, Lake Placid, Florida, that journey took a meaningful step forward through the adult education program.

It all started with a conversation. A fellow associate mentioned the program, sparking Mocha’s interest in Publix’s education opportunities. After exploring PASSport, she connected with the adult education team, who provided a list of local and online classes, including Spanish and French courses, English as a second language (ESL) resources and General Educational Development (GED) prep options.

She also learned more about GED reimbursement, which covers exam registration and a GED workbook or a prep class for associates who want to pass their state’s GED exam.

“Publix didn’t just offer resources — they showed me that my growth matters,” said Mocha. “Knowing my company supports my goals gives me the confidence to keep going.”

Mocha earned her GED certificate in February and was reimbursed for the prep class and exam fee. She credits her store leadership for their support and flexibility, which allowed her to attend prep courses and study.

Now, Mocha is focused on growing her career. She’s cross-training in the deli and plans to train in other departments. “The more I learn, the more I can grow,” she said.

Mocha encourages all associates to explore the educational resources available.

“Publix providing this support has truly changed my life,” said Mocha. “It’s important for me to share my experiences so others know that growth is possible when you’re backed by a company that believes in you.”
