What’s your advice to someone just starting their Publix career?

Learn the Publix way, embrace the culture and look for opportunities to provide value wherever you can.

What’s your favorite Publix memory?

I grew up in a small town that did not have a Publix, so my first day here felt really special. I had to call the IT help desk, and when the associate found out I was a new hire, they asked me to share a bit about myself. That simple gesture made me feel so welcomed — it truly felt like I was becoming part of the Publix family.

What skills have helped advance your Publix career?

Investing in technology and analytical skills. I’ve learned to pay attention to the data and use it to guide decisions.

What’s one of your favorite things to do when you aren’t working?

Spending time with my family. You can find me at the baseball field almost every weekend, cheering on my sons at their games.

How do you embody Mr. George’s vision?

Mr. George was fond of saying that Publix is a smorgasbord of opportunities. I like to pass along that same message. When I spoke at a town hall recently, I mentioned that quote to the audience. Each day, I strive to help associates understand their potential and the many paths available to them. Everyone has different roles and responsibilities, and each one matters.

What do you think makes Publix a great place to work?

It’s definitely the people. We have such a great group of associates who make this a special place.

What’s the most surprising or interesting part of your job?

Meeting people in different departments and visiting stores during Associate Appreciation Visits. I love hearing about their goals, motivations and families. It’s incredibly rewarding.

As a leader, what qualities do you use to guide your team to success?

Building strong relationships is key. I focus on understanding what motivates each associate and helping them succeed in their own way.

Did you have a mentor who guided you during your career at Publix?

Yes — my manager, Vice President and Controller Chris Mesa. He helped me understand what it means to be a leader in our department and how to do things the Publix way.

What’s your favorite Publix product?

Carrot cake

If you weren’t working in finance, what do you think you’d be doing instead?
