Can Opening Operator Samantha Skaggs has worked in the Lakeland deli kitchen for 20 years. Publix pride runs in her blood. Her grandfather worked at Publix for 36 years, and her parents, siblings, aunts, uncles and cousins have worked here, too.
“I started when I was 20 and have really matured with this company,” said Samantha. “I love being part of a team that takes pride in producing quality products for our customers.”
The holidays are an especially busy time for Samantha and her co-workers. Operations speed up as volume increases, and the hum of hard work can be heard throughout her facility. Samantha is focused on the end result.
“When I think of the holidays, I think of family, food and creating memories,” said Samantha. “I like to think the products we produce contribute to creating wonderful, lasting memories for our customers as they spend time enjoying great food together.”
This time of year, Samantha is busy making Publix Deli Cranberry-Orange Relish, a staple in our deli turkey dinners. With expert precision, she opens and weighs the ingredients so the right amount goes into each batch. She enjoys the challenge of getting it perfect every single time. She also enjoys the memories she makes with her co-workers — her Publix family.
“We’re a family, and we all work together to deliver the best products we can for our customers,” said Samantha. “I want our customers to have the same love and passion for these products that we put into making them.”
