Every May, Mental Health Awareness Month reminds us of the vital role mental health plays in our lives. Caring for your mental wellness is just as important as looking after your physical health.

Publix offers SupportLinc to its associates and household members to support mental health. SupportLinc provides courses, toolkits, articles and up to five free, confidential counseling sessions per mental health care case, per year. It’s an excellent resource that offers information on a variety of topics, to support you with everyday issues to help keep you at your best.

The role of self-care

When you take time for yourself, you can feel rested and recharged, boosting your overall well-being. Self-care isn’t selfish; it’s a key part of any wellness journey. It doesn’t have to be time-consuming, but it’s important to be intentional. Small actions can make a big difference. Embrace the power of self-care with these simple strategies.

  • Practice daily habits: Be sure to shower, brush your teeth, get enough sleep and exercise, and eat healthily. Sticking to these daily habits can help regulate your moods, sharpen your focus and build resilience for challenging times.
  • Exercise mindfulness: Stay present in the moment. Even brief pauses — like stepping away from distractions or slowing your breathing — can reduce stress.
  • Set boundaries: Protect your time and energy by saying “no” or stepping back when you need rest. Healthy boundaries help you recover and prevent burnout.

You don’t have to do everything on your own. Seeking support is an important part of maintaining your mental health. Reach out for encouragement, guidance or professional help when you need it.

By prioritizing self-care, you’ll be better prepared to be present at home, at work and for those who depend on you the most.
