Information Systems (IS) Senior Engineer Paul Nixon works behind the scenes to help Publix stay safe.

Paul comes from a family of Publix associates who inspired him to begin his career here in 2015, supporting stores with technology issues. He then became a security administrator and helped conduct access reviews. In 2020, he was promoted to his current role.

As an IS senior engineer, Paul works behind the scenes to manage the systems that keep Publix going, including the technology and tools that associates use every day. He also analyzes data and makes security decisions based on his findings.

“I’m always thinking about ways to improve our security so Publix is protected,” said Paul. “It’s my job to ensure that our systems keep out anyone with malicious intent.”

Paul’s favorite part of the job is problem-solving.

“I like fixing things and making them work,” he said. “It’s always a feel-good moment when everything finally clicks, and you know you’re the reason why it’s working properly.”

Looking to join the team? Paul suggests finding your niche within cybersecurity and sticking to it.

“In this role, you have to learn how to be flexible and overcome challenges,” he said. “At the end of the day, it’s all worthwhile to help make Publix more secure.”
