What do you think makes Publix a great place to work?

Publix truly feels like a family company. Publix supported me while I was in school by working around my schedule and encouraging my growth. I’ve been fortunate to have leaders who invested in me, supported my goals and helped shape my career. That level of care and opportunity is what makes Publix a great place to work.

What’s your proudest moment?

One of my proudest moments was being promoted to director. On a personal level, watching my son graduate from college and begin his career as a nurse — and seeing him become a father — are moments I’m incredibly proud of.

What’s your advice to someone just starting their Publix career?

Stick with it and don’t give up on your goals. Publix offers a lot of opportunities, and if you’re willing to learn and work hard, you can build a strong career with plenty of room for advancement.

Define your work philosophy?

My work philosophy is centered on transparency and support. I frequently share the knowledge I’ve gained with the people around me because I believe it’s important to develop our leaders for tomorrow. It’s also a top priority to be available for my team. I tell them to let me know if they need me and I will find time for them, no matter how busy I may appear.

What’s your favorite Publix moment?

One of my favorite Publix memories was when I worked in compensation with my director, Tracy McClellan. The PIQ (position information questionnaire) for the benefits manager role crossed my desk. As I read it, I realized I was interested in the job. I went into Tracy’s office and said, ‘You know who I think can do this?’ She replied, ‘You,’ and she vouched for me. That moment really stayed with me.

You’re a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?

I would be red. It’s bold and stands out.

What are you binge-watching right now?

I’m currently binge‑watching “The Hunting Party.” It’s about a top‑secret prison where dangerous criminals are subjected to experiments, they’ve escaped and now the FBI is racing to track them down.

Name your most unusual talent?

Crocheting. I like to crochet creative baby blankets. The last one I made had an ark with animals in it.

“Backup Plan” by Bailey Zimmerman

If you could meet anyone in the past or present, who would it be? Why?

Ruth Bader Ginsburg, because she challenged norms and pursued paths many people believed she shouldn’t. Her determination to push boundaries is deeply inspiring.

What’s your favorite Publix product?

Our Volcano Roll Dip — it makes a great sauce for a pasta dish!

Best travel spot?

I’d have to say Dublin, Ireland. Or when I went parasailing on my birthday in Hawaii!

What is the best career advice you’ve received — or a lesson that shaped how you approach your work?

When I moved into compensation, I was seated in a workstation just outside the director’s office. I quickly realized it was an opportunity to observe how she interacted with people and handled different situations. By paying attention and being observant, I learned an incredible amount just by watching what was going on around me.
