Belonging isn’t just about being included; it’s about feeling seen and heard. For Supply Chain Technical Specialist Josef Adamiak, that feeling became clear when life took an unexpected turn.
After a hurricane caused severe flooding at his home in 2024, Josef faced weeks of storm damage and uncertainty. His co-workers immediately encouraged him to take the time he needed to focus on his family and home.
When supplies were nearly impossible to find locally, associates from distribution stepped in and provided sandbags that helped prevent more damage.
“Publix was there for me when I truly needed it,” he said. “That support made all the difference.”
Both his personal and professional experiences have shaped Josef’s understanding of inclusion. Raised in Ocala, Florida, in a Ukrainian American household, culture and community were central to his upbringing.
As a child, Josef stayed closely connected to his heritage through church, community gatherings and Ukrainian dancing. These helped instill in him a strong sense of resilience, identity and responsibility to show up for others.
“I was raised to believe that effort matters,” said Josef. “You show up, work hard and take pride in what you do because the people around you are counting on you.”
That mindset guides how Josef approaches his current role, where he helps support the systems that keep Publix stores well-stocked.
For Josef, being part of Publix means knowing he’s valued — not just for his work, but as a person — and that when challenges arise, he won’t face them alone.
