Grocery Replenishment Specialist Melba Gonzalez plays an important role in keeping the grocery area organized and running smoothly at #669, North Miami Beach, Florida.
Originally from Cuba, Melba brings her values — a strong sense of pride, respect and community shaped by her culture and life experiences — to work every day. After spending 9 years living in Italy, she came to the U.S. in 2017 to be closer to family.
Melba has been serving customers since 2022. In her current role, she enjoys every part of the job, especially taking ownership of the aisles she manages.
Support from leaders and co-workers also contributes to her positive experience. Whenever Melba has questions, she knows she can count on her team for guidance and encouragement. “Connecting with people from different backgrounds has helped me grow both personally and professionally,” she said.
When it comes to her Cuban background, Melba celebrates her heritage year-round through frequent family gatherings where food, music and dancing bring everyone together.
While these traditions are part of her everyday life, Melba appreciates how her store takes time to recognize Hispanic Heritage Month during the Sept. 15 – Oct. 15 observance. “I enjoy the luncheons in the break room where Hispanic foods are served, and we get the chance to share stories about our family traditions and cultures,” she said.
For Melba, these celebrations reinforce a sense of belonging and recognition that goes beyond a single month. Feeling seen and valued has given Melba the confidence to fully embrace her role and take pride in her contributions, making Publix not just a workplace but a community where she can continue to grow.
