Josh began his career with Publix in 2011, working in internal audit. In 2017, he moved to technology, where he continued to thrive. Josh worked in various positions before being promoted to his current role in 2023.

What drew you to join Publix?

I was born in Lakeland, Florida. I always wanted to stay local with my family. With Publix being really big in our state, I set my eyes on working here.

What does your team specialize in?

Our specific area of focus is cybersecurity. We’re proactively installing security solutions to protect Publix’s systems and data. The unique part of our objective is that when we’re protecting our company, we want security to be highly effective without any operational impact. I emphasize to my team that we have responsibility and accountability to help keep Publix “securely operational.”

What do you enjoy the most about your job?

I really enjoy my involvement in so many projects in almost every area of Publix. I get to learn about and work with retail stores, manufacturing plants, distribution facilities and more. We also work with every technology team at Publix. Every day, I learn something new, so not a single day feels stale, which is great.

What is your dream vacation?

It would be traveling to another national park. Our family has visited 16 so far, but we would love to see all 63. The most recent were Sequoia and Yosemite in California.

What’s your favorite Publix product?

Lemon Berry Bliss Ice Cream. My second choice would be vanilla, but everybody chooses that flavor.

What big projects have you worked on?

I was involved in a multitude of projects as technology has grown and evolved at Publix. Our teams deployed authentication servers and firewalls to all stores and support facilities. We’ve created layers of security within our cloud platforms. AI security is a daily topic as we harness this transformational technology.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

It’s important for everyone to always be ready, because anything can happen. I was fortunate to be in the right place at the right time for my career, and I was able to take advantage of my opportunities.

Who motivates you?

My family is a significant part of my life. The responsibility of providing for my wife and 3 children motivates me every day. On a professional level, our teams work diligently to ensure that Publix, along with our customers, associates, stockholders and the communities we serve, remains protected.

Any hobbies you enjoy?

I love gardening. It’s peaceful, quiet and relaxing. I live on several acres, so I can grow a variety of vegetables and flowers.

Do you have any pets?

I don’t have any pets, but I do have 15 chickens.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, free of charge, where would you go?

I would pick Australia. I would love to see the Great Barrier Reef, which is the world’s largest coral reef system. And exploring the outback would be a bonus.

What is your favorite movie?

“Pearl Harbor,” but that’s a hard choice because there are so many great movies out there.

What would be your top TV show of all time?

It would probably be “The Big Bang Theory.”
