Meet Lead Immunizing Pharmacy Technician Ann Spinelli

From front service clerk to her current role, Ann, #398, Tampa, Florida, has learned to embrace change.

What was your journey to becoming a pharmacy technician?
I began my Publix career at 16 as a front service clerk. Over the years, I have worked in a variety of roles in retail, including cashier, customer service manager and assistant store manager. While I was working as an assistant store manager, I wanted to spend more time with my daughter and decided to take a step down from my position with the support of my management team. I transitioned to customer service staff and then became an administrative coordinator before landing in pharmacy. They taught me how to become a pharmacy technician, and I have been here ever since.

Why did you want to become a pharmacy technician?
At the time, they were looking for associates to train in pharmacy. I thought it was a good opportunity to continue to learn and grow.

Who’s been the most helpful to you in your career at Publix and why?
I’ve had several store managers over the years who’ve helped guide my career path and taught me how to lead and be personable.

What do you love most about working for Publix?
We’re a family. Everyone pitches in and helps one another. That goes for every Publix I’ve worked in.

If you were not a pharmacy technician, what would you be?
I love this job! But if I were able, I’d volunteer my time helping people.

Who inspires you?
Former President Barack Obama is a huge inspiration to me. I think he’s a great leader and gives me hope.

What keeps you going every day?
My family definitely keeps me going. I always want to be a good example for my daughter.

What are your hobbies?
My husband, Jeff, and I love to travel, especially to cold-weather climates when it’s hot in Florida.

What is your personal motto?
Get excited! I try to find excitement and a silver lining in everything I do.

Do you have a favorite quote by Mr. George?
Begin. The rest is easy.

Do you have a favorite Publix product?
Heavenly hash ice cream
