All associates have a responsibility to customers, co-workers, stockholders, suppliers and our communities to adhere to Publix’s core values. Using sound judgment and thoughtful evaluation in every situation makes good choices easy to recognize. Making ethical decisions at work benefits our company, and — as stockholders — it also benefits us.
How you can help
To be successful, we all have to act responsibly. Some of the ways you can do that include
- looking out for our customers. Always provide premier service to make shopping a pleasure each time they visit.
- using Publix’s resources wisely and not being wasteful. Publix’s resources should be used to conduct company business only.
- building and maintaining strong professional relationships with our suppliers and always complying with Publix’s standards and the laws that govern supplier relationships.
- being involved in the communities in which we operate. After all, this is where we work and live.
- watching out for each other, too. Treat others as you want to be treated — with dignity and respect.
Do the right thing
You should review Publix’s Summary of the Code of Ethics, which includes many
guidelines for doing the right thing. When trying to determine whether an issue is
in violation of Publix’s policies, laws or the Code, try using the following test.
- Is the action legal?
- Does it comply with our values?
- If you do it, will you feel bad?
- How will it look in the media, online or in the newspaper?
If you know it’s wrong, don’t do it! If you’re not sure, ask. Keep asking until you get an answer. If you know of an ethics policy violation, it is your responsibility as an associate and stockholder to report it.
Talk to your manager or call the Publix Ethics Line toll-free at 1-866-747-3773 to report unethical behavior. Calls to the Ethics Line are confidential, and you don’t have to identify yourself. So do the right thing — for Publix and for yourself.
