Did you know Publix’s recycling program has been in place for 40 years? Let’s keep America beautiful by recycling at work and home. It’s easier to do than you might think. Take a look at the facts below about recycling at home — they may surprise you, and celebrate America Recycles Day Nov. 15.
Do you really want to throw that away?
- You can improve the health of your soil, build its resistance to drought and reduce its need for water by composting food scraps.
- More than 4.4 million tons of electronic equipment and scrap material (cell phones, computers, ink and toner cartridges, digital cameras, etc.) are recycled in the U.S. each year.
- You can recycle an entire aluminum can. And the same thing goes for glass containers, plastic bottles and steel cans. That includes the lid, tabs, labels and the container itself. Toss the whole thing into your recycle bin!
- On average, each American generates 4.4 pounds of trash per day. That means collectively we produce about 250 million tons per year.
- Recycling creates U.S. jobs in the recycling industry and manufacturing.
It’s like giving a second chance to trash
All recyclable materials want to be something else after their purpose is fulfilled. Take a look at the future your trash can have, if only you recycle it (right).
