Invest in Others

As part of our 85th anniversary, we want to remember some of Mr. George’s lessons that have made our culture what it is today.

Mr. George knew he couldn’t do it alone. And that’s a valuable lesson whether you’re competing in sports, working in a business or contributing to any organization you’re a part of. He knew that anything successful came from working together to accomplish a common goal. To share a vision. To build it. To grow together.

When you look back, you can see how truly invested in this lesson Mr. George was. He wanted associates to understand their responsibilities. He shared his vision of service and quality. He believed in supporting people as much as possible so they could be successful in their jobs. He made them company owners, because he understood that with owning something came responsibility. If his associates understood and shared his vision, they would bring it to reality.

Today, the result of that vision is 1,097 stores in six states and more than 174,000 associates carrying out Publix’s mission. We still believe in Mr. George’s lessons today. In fact, over the past five years, we’ve made it easier for you to understand your role in accomplishing Publix’s goals through My Publix, My Part. Now, we’re using that program to help share how our culture came to be and how you can help it continue to move forward.

Being part of the Publix family is something special. No matter how someone becomes a member of it — associate, customer, supplier — we still believe we are better as a team than as individuals.
