What’s in a mission

CEO Ed Crenshaw

To be the premier quality food retailer in the world … that’s our mission, but what does that mean?

A lot of things are important about our company — the people who work here, the customers who shop here and the stores they shop at — but the guiding principle on how we take care of what’s important to us can be found in our mission statement.

A mission statement is meant to stand the test of time, so when we created it, we thought long and hard about what we strived to be. Our leadership team also works very hard to make certain our strategy supports our mission to be the premier quality food retailer in the world.
Being familiar with our mission is important because it can guide us on how we do our jobs; it touches every aspect of our business in one way or another. And it doesn’t matter what your responsibilities are, you can support some aspect of it every day.

So, over the course of 2016, we’ll spotlight the points of our mission and share stories of how we’re living it through our associates, our communities and as stockholders. Learn more about our mission statement, decoded.

While we focus on each part of our mission statement, I hope you’ll share your stories with us. I look forward to reading them and sharing ours.

Living the mission will help ensure our success moving forward. Let’s commit ourselves to embracing it and each principle it represents.
