Going from good to great

Todd Jones, CEO & President

As a Publix associate, we know how important it is to be premier, but how do we go from being good at our tasks to being great?

First, it’s important to define what the path from good to great looks like. There’s a distinct difference between the two. We should be good at some things, so we can spend our time being great at others. Knowing which tasks are strategic to your position is the first step.

Providing premier customer service is the most important task we should all be great at. Service is part of what makes us unique, and it may look different for each of us, depending on our position.

To help go from good to great, you’ll need to drill down to some of your most simple steps that make a world of difference to your customers. It may be committing yourself to greeting everyone you come in contact with, or it could be offering additional assistance once you’ve met their needs.

Whatever your position is, make sure you know what you should be great at. Your manager is here to help clarify what those steps are for you. Then, rally around them. You are a Publix associate, and being great is part of who we are.

Thanks for all you do.
