When Alejandra Amariz moved from Bogotá, Colombia, to the U.S. in 2014, she had 1 goal: to create a better life for her family.
After arriving in the U.S., Alejandra’s 1st job was at a nail salon. But everything changed in 2017 when she joined Publix as a part-time deli clerk at #1136, Homestead, Florida. Alejandra immediately stood out for her positive attitude, strong work ethic and passion for customer service.
She succeeded early, taking on various roles in the deli before becoming a deli manager. In May, she was promoted to assistant store manager at #500, Key West, Florida.
Alejandra credits much of her success to the support she received from her leadership, who helped her navigate challenges.
“Learning English and adapting to new roles was tough, but I never felt discouraged,” said Alejandra. “My managers always believed in me and encouraged me to keep learning.”
Her journey isn’t just about hard work and overcoming obstacles. It’s also about staying connected to her roots. Keeping her Colombian heritage close to her heart, she often makes traditional foods like empanadas and arepas for her team.
“Food is a big part of my culture,” explained Alejandra. “It’s how we connect with others and show appreciation.”
Her experiences are a reminder that strength comes from embracing both personal and professional challenges. She believes the true meaning of success is bringing your authentic self into every part of your journey.
“Never be scared to chase your dreams,” said Alejandra. “Look where I started. If I can do it, so can you!”
