Associate improves recipes and processes in the bakery

What started as a part-time job for Maymianne Allison has become a sweet career.

Maymianne was a college student when she started her Publix career as a cashier at #42, Canton, Georgia. A year and a half later, she became a bakery clerk. Maymianne continued to gain experience as a decorator apprentice, decorator and assistant bakery manager. Her 8 years as a bakery manager prepared her for a retail improvement specialist position in the Atlanta Division. She began her current role as a bakery technical specialist in 2023.

Because she creates recipes and develops processes for associates to follow, Maymianne knows exactly what the Publix standard is supposed to look like. “When you see our baked goods online, in Publix ads and on signs, the product photographed was made by technical specialists like me,” she said.

Maymianne also updates procedures for the department. “I am motivated to improve the production process for bakery associates,” she said.

She enjoys working with associates from other departments to create new bakery products, select packaging for them, and see that food safety and labeling guidelines are met.

The most rewarding part of Maymianne’s job is presenting her team with the final product, whether it’s a new bakery item or process.

“Members of my team all have unique strengths that work well together,” said Maymianne. “We have different personalities and perspectives that help us make the best decision for the projects we are working on.”
