Associates and customers at #1270, Lakeland, Florida, know Front Service Clerk Robert Norris for his kind heart and warm greetings. Since joining Publix in 2021, he’s taken pride in serving customers.
“I love helping people and making their day better,” said Robert. “That’s my favorite part of my job.”
As he’s grown in his role, working at Publix has strengthened Robert’s diligence and discipline, qualities that support him both on the job and in his personal life.
Outside of work, Robert is a record-breaking endurance athlete. On Nov. 16, 2025, he became the first person with Down syndrome to complete a full-distance IRONMAN triathlon (II2) in Arizona without using a guide. He completed the 2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike ride and 26.2-mile run in 15:35:09, a time recognized by Guinness World Records as the fastest in the II2 category.
The IRONMAN triathlon is one of the most demanding endurance competitions in the world, challenging athletes physically and mentally over a full day of racing.
Reflecting on this achievement, Robert said, “I felt great and energized after the race. Running was the hardest part, but it’s all about your mindset. I don’t race to prove I can. I race to show what’s possible!”
That mindset fuels him as he trains daily for more IRONMAN events, major marathons and his ultimate goal: the World Marathon Challenge.
Robert credits the people around him for keeping him motivated.
“The encouragement and support I receive from my family and co-workers empower me to keep racing,” he said. “My store team follows my races, tracks me on the IRONMAN app and celebrates every finish line.”
With each milestone, Robert hopes to inspire others to achieve their goals. His message is simple and powerful: Keep going, and don’t give up!
