Since she started her Publix career as a 14-year-old front service clerk, Laila Spoltore, #805, Coconut Creek, Florida, has wanted to be a store manager. Fast forward 11 years to her recent promotion to customer service team leader, and Laila is on track to one day reach her goal.
Laila started working for Publix after her mom, Floral Specialist Lori Spoltore, #549, Coral Springs, Florida, encouraged her to apply.
“My mom wanted to teach me the value of a dollar,” Laila said. “She also wanted me to learn the Publix culture.”
And learn the Publix culture she has. Store Manager Paul Valentine, who worked with Laila at #1121, Coral Springs, knows Laila is an integral part of the customer service team.
“She exemplifies our Publix strategy every day by building customer loyalty and associate confidence in doing their part,” Paul said. “She coaches them on what their job responsibilities are and why these tasks are important.”
Laila upholds and executes our standards, such as providing premier service, and encourages her fellow associates to do their part in fulfilling Publix’s mission of being the premier quality food retailer in the world. Her execution of our mission and strategy is why she’s a featured retail associate in the My Publix, My Part program.
“Our strategy gives everyone a clear understanding of what it means to be a Publix associate and how we work on a day-to-day basis,” she said.
District Manager Missy MacQueen said during her interview for team leader, Laila had no trouble stating her strategic tasks and the importance of them.
Those tasks are something Laila will keep in mind as she works toward her goal of becoming a store manager.
“I want my name at the top of the receipt; that’s what I always say,” Laila said. “I want my store to be the best in the district at all times. When you stay focused on the mission, the rest falls into place.”
