Baking up a bright future

Phwint Maung began his Publix journey in 2018 as a front service clerk. Today, he’s a baker at #142, Brentwood, Tennessee, bringing enthusiasm and hard work to his team every day.

His path into the bakery wasn’t planned; it grew from curiosity and encouragement. After his assistant customer service manager suggested he explore opportunities in the bakery, Phwint quickly discovered a passion for the craft.

“My favorite thing to bake is our bread,” he said. “Whether it’s sourdough round, white mountain or our classic hoagie roll, I enjoy making each one and seeing it come out fresh from the oven.”

Outside the kitchen, Phwint is known for his bubbly personality and sense of humor. He says the welcoming Publix environment makes it easy for him to be himself, and that feeling of belonging has supported his growth.

Another source of pride for Phwint comes from his Southeast Asian culture. He often celebrates it by cooking traditional foods like Mohinga, a rice noodle and fish curry dish he loves sharing with others.

Phwint’s values are deeply rooted in his upbringing. “My parents taught me to stay humble, work hard and honor those who help me along the way,” he said.

Reflecting on his journey, Phwint is proud of how far he’s come and excited for what lies ahead. He looks forward to expanding his skills, taking on new challenges and building a long-term career at Publix doing what he enjoys.
