Building a career in the industrial maintenance department

Certified Lift Truck Maintenance Associate Sawyer Fullwood didn’t know he was embarking on a journey to become an essential part of our industrial operations team.

Sawyer joined Publix in 2006 as a selector at the high velocity warehouse in Lakeland, Florida, and worked his way through several different positions, including order checker and lift truck maintenance technician.

In his current role, Sawyer is responsible for maintenance and operations tasks that keep the warehouse running efficiently. He juggles a lot, and he wants more!

“It’s not an easy job, and you will have a lot on your plate. To be successful in this position, you should be comfortable with multitasking,” said Sawyer. “You need to be thorough in your projects and assignments because your contribution is vital for keeping operations running well.”

Sawyer relies on his passion for details. He monitors and maintains warehouse equipment and machinery and oversees the training of new machine operators. He sets up and inspects manufacturing equipment, regularly evaluates the efficiency of each unit and identifies areas for improvement.

“What keeps me going is the Publix culture and my passion,” said Sawyer. “I have met a bunch of great people during my career. They’ve always empowered and encouraged me to apply for leadership roles and grow in my professional path.”

As someone who loves a challenge, Sawyer is striving for a management position. He believes his goal is achievable because he has the support of his leaders and valuable career development training tools at Publix.
