This father and son are both truck drivers at our distribution center in Deerfield, Florida.
Eusebio Todd started working at Publix when he was 17 years old.
“Ever since I was a kid, I was fascinated with 18-wheelers,” said Eusebio. “When I was hired and saw the possibilities, I knew I could become a truck driver here. I was excited to have the opportunity.”
After serving for 13 years in the warehouse, Eusebio got the call to train as a driver, and he’s been behind the wheel of a Publix truck for the past 20 years. When he first started driving, he was often sent to stores throughout South Florida, driving from one coast to the other.
“I loved being able to see Florida like that, especially at night around Christmas,” he said. “I’d come from the north or the west coast, and I’d see all the lights with the Christmas music playing on the radio.”
When it was time for his son, Rayvon Todd, to get a job, Eusebio immediately thought of Publix. So, Rayvon started his Publix career at a store in Aventura before moving to the Miami warehouse as a selector. After some time, he was ready for a new challenge.
“I wanted to try something different, so I took the opportunity to apply for the driver trainee position,” Rayvon said.
Last September, he got a call to train at Deerfield distribution center, the same location Eusebio works from. Like his father, Rayvon enjoys driving so much he’s planning to spend his entire career as a Publix driver.
“Publix is a good company to work for,” said Rayvon. “There are lots of job opportunities, and you can do as much as you want with the company. There’s nowhere else I’d like to go.”
Eusebio is extremely proud of Rayvon but can’t resist giving a little fatherly advice.
“I always tell him to be professional,” Eusebio said.
Earlier this year, the family pride switched sides when Eusebio was presented with a Million Mile Safe Driver Award.
“That’s a lot of miles to go being safe,” said Rayvon. “I hope one day I can do it too.”
