Providing premier service behind the scenes

DSD Clerk Sue Franke, #86, Roswell, Georgia, works hard in the backrooms of our stores to provide the best products for our customers.

She was working as an outside vendor when a grocery manager recruited her to Publix. Five years later, Sue excels at her role and helps train other DSD clerks across her district.

“My job is to check the product that comes into our stores from third parties,” Sue said. “Anything that doesn’t come on a Publix truck goes through me. I make sure we are receiving what we’re paying for.”

Sue helps us reduce shrink by checking product for damages so our customers only see the best on the shelves of our stores.

“My drivers will tell you I’m tough but fair,” Sue said.

When not working at #86, Sue trains or assists other DSD clerks, such as at store grand openings. She also teaches newly promoted assistant store managers about her role.

“DSD seemed to be the one area the managers knew the least about,” Sue said. “So, I was asked to start teaching them so they’d have some familiarity.”

“Sue is a big believer in, ‘If you don’t know, then I’ll teach you,’” Assistant Store Manager Matthew Arnold said. “She is passionate about training others.”

For providing premier service by ensuring product quality, Sue is recognized as a My Publix, My Part difference maker. Her store management team praised her for being a role model associate.

“Her persona alone can light up a whole store with happiness and positivity,” Matthew said. She exemplifies what it means to be a hard worker and is extremely organized. Everyone knows she is the go-to person when it comes to keeping the backroom flowing.”

Matthew also said Sue holds vendors to the Publix standards while maintaining positive relationships with them.

“She is the true epitome of who a Publix owner should be,” he said.

Store Manager Christy Fraser agreed.

“She is an extremely professional and exceptional associate who puts everyone’s needs above her own,” Christy said. “Every store needs a Sue!”

Sue thoroughly enjoys her work and is grateful for her journey with Publix so far.

“I love the people here and I love my position,” she said. “It’s a perfect fit for me. I know I’m very appreciated. It’s an honor to work with these great people. I’ve never been happier.”
